By now, it’s almost guaranteed that you’ve heard of all the crazy updates coming to Epcot in the next couple of years. And if you haven’t, well, get stoked because it’s going to be huge! Among the new attractions are a Moana-themed water exhibit, a Guardians of the Galaxy ride, a three-story sky park, and much, much more! Starting January 4, Epcot will be seeing a lot of new changes as construction begins for these grand new projects.
Earlier in 2019, several locations in the Future World pavilion of Epcot started closing down in preparation for the promised new attractions. In September, construction walls started to go up as the first steel beams were laid for the interactive “Journey of Water” Moana attraction.
Now, less than a week away, we’ll start seeing more progressive changes through the park. The beloved Mouse Gear retail shop will close for the day as it relocates to a temporary new location in Innovations East on January 5.
Also on January 5, several character greetings in Innovations West will be closing and relocating, as well. Mickey Mouse, along with Joy, can be found in the queue area of the Disney-Pixar Short Film Festival in the Imagination! Pavilion.
Minnie Mouse will be greeting guests in the World Showcase Gazebo, and Daisy will subsequently move to Future World East.
Goofy will also move to the Main Entrance near Spaceship Earth. Finally, Sadness and Baymax will be unavailable to greet guests for a time, and it is unclear when they will return.
As the park continues to grow and change, the way that guests navigate their way through the already-elaborate maze of passages and trails will change as well. New walkways will be expanded and rerouted through several areas to help guests around the impacted areas.
Rose Walk pathway, between Future World and World Showcase, has now been completed, while even more are still in development leading to the Family Play Zone.
As we move through the first month of the new year, more walkways will be opened to connect the west side of the Main Entrance to the promenade near The Seas with Nemo & Friends.
Plus new paths connecting the east side of the Main Entrance to Future World East and the new temporary location of Mouse Gear.
