Many of us have fantasized at least once about the mansion we'd build if we had unlimited funds. Something that feels fancy and foreign yet has a familiar, whimsical fairy-tale charm. Florida's highly sought after and once abandoned Howey Mansion has been restored to its former fairy tale grandeur, and you can actually tour it.
Once upon a time, the over 100-year-old mansion sat vacant and empty, covered in vines as a beautiful inconvenience in Howey In The Hills Florida. It frequented a lot of break-ins and trespassings from local teens wanting to hunt the 'haunted' halls for suspected paranormal activity.
The original owner, William J. Howey, was buried in a mausoleum on the property, which is what inspired many to believe that home might be haunted. While that hasn't been confirmed nor denied, it only adds an extra air of whimsey and mystery around this building. Howey was a businessman who used Florida's booming Citrus industry as the economic groundwork for building this magical masterpiece.
Many have said the building echoed a beauty of "once-upon-a-time" and drew the fascination of others wanting to see what was inside for one reason or another - Brothers Brad and Clay Cowherd shared the fascination, eventually purchasing and restoring the mansion to its former grandeur. You'll no longer have to wonder what's behind those walls - you can actually tour the historic mansion.
The 7188 square foot, 20 room Howey Mansion is a gorgeous rose stuccoed Mediterranean-revival style home truly fit for a rich story-book princess. It was originally built for Howey in the 1920s by a female architect who put her own personal touches on the property, bringing in that grand Mediterranean fantasy vibe.
The very opulent and rich design is what made the mansion a highly sought after wedding venue too, and we can definitely see why. The fairytale wedding vibes of every woman's dream comes through in all of the photos.
Everything from the ornate ironwork in the spiral staircase to the plumes of color in the stained glass windows and the sweeping heart of pine flooring throughout was meticulously restored - and its fairytale grandeur is everything we could have ever dreamed of.
The Howey Mansion is currently closed due to a film being shot there. Historic tours of this beautiful mansion will be starting up again after August 6th and can be booked online. If you're looking for the fairytale wedding venue of your dreams, they also offer wedding packages viewable on their website.
