It's November, so clearly we have to start talking about the holiday season and only the holiday season. Maybe you're not the kind of person that blasts Christmas music as soon as the clock turns to 12:01 on November 1st, but I am. Once Halloween is over, it's officially the holiday season!
No matter how many people you have to shop for, it can always be stressful but also so fun. You get to go shopping pretty much every weekend, but the crowded malls are a no thank you. Good thing we have amazing markets to keep us away from all of those crowded malls, and the gifts you'll find are so unique that everyone will love them.
The holidays should never be stressful. I mean, it's the most wonderful and magical time of the year! Maybe you've over shopping and just want to enjoy the holidays. Don't worry, we have some events for you too. All of these markets and events are sure to put you in the holiday spirit!
The Museum's Christmas Market
November 30th to Dec 3rd
Located at the Canadian Museum of History, over 80 exhibitors showcase their handmade creations and amazing edibles. You can definitely find anything you're looking for here! On Thursday and Friday, the market opens at 11 am and on Saturday and Sunday it opens at 9:30 am.
Lansdowne Christmas Market
December 2nd & 3rd, 9th & 10th, and 23rd (The weekend of December 16th & 17th is held at the EY Centre)
The ever popular Lansdowne Farmers' Market turns into a Christmas market every December, and it's something you need to check out. Running from 9 am to 3 pm on all the days listed, you'll have plenty of time to look at all of the vendors and see what you need to get your friends and family. 120 vendors will be awaiting you, all with local products from food to crafts.
Bonus event: The mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, will light the ever so beautiful Christmas tree outside of Lansdowne Park on December 2nd.
613Christmas is a magical place to spend your Saturday Christmas shopping. Their flea market is filled with vintage, antique and unique pieces from clothing to whatever else you need. This free event will take place at Carleton University Fieldhouse and is open from 10 am to 5 pm.
November 24th to 26th
This German market is so popular that we look to forward to it all year round. Located in Pembroke, which is about an hour and a half from Ottawa, this market is two levels of holiday fun. The drive is so worth it and if you don't think so, just remember they have delicious German food along with gifts to give your loved ones.
Carp Farmers’ Christmas Market
December 1st to 2nd
Who doesn't love fresh produce and baked goods for the holiday season?! With 60+ vendors, there's no way you'll walk out of this farmers' market empty handed. Carp Farmers' Christmas Market is located at the Carp Fairgrounds, and is on from 3 pm to 8 pm Friday and 8 am to 2 pm Saturday.
National Gallery of Canada Christmas Tree Lighting
Every year, the National Gallery of Canada has the most amazing and stunning Christmas tree that you can see through the windows. At the Christmas tree lighting, there will be carollers as well as complimentary hot chocolate. It's still unknown how tall the tree is this year, but last year it stood at 11 metres high!
Hintonburg Artisan Craft Fair
It doesn't get more hipster than an artisan craft fair! Located at the Hintonburg Community Centre, you'll be able to shop around for presents from local vendors who will feature their gorgeous paintings, jewelry, clothing and so much more. There will of course be food, including a hot chilli lunch. It's on from 10 am to 4 pm.
Watson's Mill Christmas Market
November 25th to December 3rd
From pottery, knitting, bath soaps, honey, and more, this Christmas market has everything you could ever want! Located at Watson's Mill in Manotick, all of the products are by local craftsmen and are so unique. The market is open from 10 am to 4 pm each day.
November 15th to 19th
Signatures Show is such a huge holiday shopping event. Located at the Shaw Centre, vendors from around Canada come to display their work for customers to buy. All of the products are unique, but there's no way you won't leave without an item. These Canadian handcrafted pieces are to die for. The hours differ each day.
HOMEmade for the Holidays
This event has handpicked vendors to give you the best of the best. As you can imagine, it's filled with vendors that hand make all their unique items and there are over 100 of them! If you love giving gifts that are targeted directly to the person, you'll find them all here. This event is hosted at the Infinity Convention Centre and is open from 10 am to 4 pm.
