Grey's Anatomy seems to be on it's 50th season, but none of us are complaining. Throughout the 12 years it's been on the air, we've seen so much change between all these characters. And so many new characters have joined the show, even though we're still bitter about some leaving (cough, cough, Cristina Yang).

We've experienced heartbreak, death, and so many surgeries with this cast, it's crazy. But what we've taken most from the show is the lesson it teaches us in every single episode. The monologue at the beginning and end of the show may not seem like much to some, but Grey's Anatomy has an impact on so many lives. It almost feels like we're friends with them, as well as going through life with them. So if you're a die hard fan, or just starting to binge watch on Netflix, you'll find so many lessons and truth in every episode that will resonate in so many areas of your life. Thank you, Grey's.

1. Everything can be fixed with a dance.

As Cristina would say, "no talking, just dance!" Put on your favourite song, and shake it out.

2. True love has no time frame.

We're all still trying to get over Izzie and Denny's short lived relationship. It was not fair at all, but true love never dies.

3. You are the sun.

If you're going through a breakup, a hard time, or just everyday stress, remember no one is the sun except yourself. You are the only person that can make yourself happy, you are your own sunshine each and everyday.

4. It's okay to make mistakes.

April Kepner once messed up big time by getting distracted and not checking a patients airways. She then got fired, but was asked to come back. She got over her fear of not being perfect by making a mistake.

5. It's also completely okay to have a meltdown.

Cristina had many of these and always came out on top. Sometimes, you just need to break down and be okay with it. Remember when she randomly worked as a bartender?

6. George taught us love isn't always reciprocated.

And that's life. But everything happens for a reason. Everyone thought he was gay for so long, no one took him seriously, and Meredith cried after they slept together. But George never gave up, and everyone always loved him for being the nice guy. Always be the nice guy.

7. Soulmates don't always have to be lovers.

Meredith and Cristina are a prime of example of a soulmate relationship. And it's goals.

8. You can change your life whenever you want.

Think of how awful Alex Karev was to everyone at the beginning of the show. Now he's a paediatric surgeon who is so good with kids, so sweet, and we all know there's a huge heart under that stubborn personality.

9. To always put yourself first, even if it feels wrong at the time.

Callie was not happy with her marriage with Arizona, after she put Arizona first for so long after the plane crash. She didn't want to, but needed to make herself happy first and it definitely worked out for her.

10. Your future doesn't depend on anyone but yourself.

Meredith didn't think she could go on without Derek, and now look at her. She's more successful than ever, and she even thought she would never be happy again. Sometimes losing someone is the greatest way to see your potential.

11. Friends are everything. Friends are family.

None of these people would be where they are without the help of their friends. When Alex picks up Izzie after Denny dies, when Cristina sleeps over in the same bed as Meredith and Derek, when Joe the bartender is there for all of them no matter what. It all comes down to who will listen when you need it.

12. And if you lose a friend, another will always come along that you need even more.

When Cristina left to go work in Switzerland, Karev stepped up as Meredith's person. And it's exactly what she needed in that time, and you really got to see a different size of Karev.

13. Your past does not define your future.

Half of these surgeons came from really rough backgrounds, and look at how successful they are now. Izzie lived in a trailer parker when she was younger, gave her daughter up for adoption when she was 16 and was a lingerie model in order to pay for med school–she did what she had to do.

15. You can have a plan for your life, but it won't work out that way.

All of these surgeons thought that's what they would be for the rest of their lives. However, things happen. Plane crashes, shootings, you name it. However, even more beautiful things can come from having no plans at all. Once you least expect it, your life changes!

16. Be a girl boss and be proud of it.

Miranda Bailey is the prime example of a girl boss. She didn't want anyone knowing she was pregnant because she didn't want people to stop seeing her as a boss–which is gold. They all look up to her and her work ethic, and everyone should strive to be like Miranda Bailey.

17. Never stop going for what you want. Even if it seems impossible.

Jackson and April were meant to be together. Everyone knew it, even April did when she was getting married to whats his face. And Jackson did not give up and even went after her on her wedding day (I don't recommend doing this, but you get the point). If you feel in your heart something is right and that you want it, believe it's already yours and the universe will give it to you!

18. Last but not least, don't trust anyone.

Well, not exactly. But definitely don't trust Shonda Rhimes. That woman kills off every character we've ever loved, and she cannot be trusted.
