Ottawa's Free Butterfly Show Is A Tropical Oasis You Can Escape To This Fall

There will be 1300 exotic butterflies to befriend! 🦋

If you're not quite ready for fall, you can escape the chill by visiting a magical butterfly show in Ottawa. You'll even save some money because this attraction next month is free! That's something we can all get behind.

Carleton University's popular Butterfly Show is returning this year from Oct. 5 to 13, 2019. During the show, you'll have access to the lush Nesbitt Biology building greenhouses to see thousands of butterflies!

For the Butterfly Show, there will be over 1300 live and exotic butterflies fluttering around the plants in the greenhouse! You'll be able to explore the space and enjoy up-close views of colourful butterflies. Make sure to have your camera ready to get some great photos for Instagram.

Compared to the cooler October temperatures, the greenhouse will feel like summer! The average temperature is 25-30ºC plus humidity, so you can peel off your fall layers in order to not get too warm.

To help attract the butterflies to you, it's best to wear bright, colourful clothing like yellows, oranges, and pinks. It's also a good idea to bring some cut wedges of oranges or pineapples. You can hold out a piece of an orange and watch as the butterflies land on the fruit slice.

This year, the show will be open daily, Oct. 5-13, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Last year, more than 10,000 visitors attended the event. Due to the sheer volume of attendees, expect lineups to get inside.

Don't miss your chance to escape to this tropical oasis filled with butterflies. Invite your friends to join you next month for this incredible free event!
