Here’s When The New Ottawa Art Gallery Is Officially Opening

Since 2015 we have been watching the Ottawa Art Gallery come up right beside the Rideau Centre. We can all finally start to get excited because this new gallery is opening up in a few days! From the stunning art exhibits to the chic architecture you will be in awe of this brand new space in Ottawa. With the weather finally warming up it's time to get outside and explore new places across the city.

The best part about the Ottawa Art Gallery is that it is absolutely free to enter at all times! That's right, you can go without having to spend a single penny. The contemporary luminous square cube that was designed by KPMB Architects and Régis Côté will capture your attention and leave you wanting to explore all five floors of the gallery.

The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) is an independent, not-for-profit, charitable organization. The gallery is a vital visual arts institution in the city. As a leader in the arts community they present new ideas and give artists a perfect place to meet with each other and share their knowledge. The OAG reflects on and explores and social change as well as diversity through visual arts practice.

Since its founding in 1988, the OAG has built a huge permanent collection with more than 1,020 works including paintings, sculpture, graphic arts, photographs and new media. The OAG researches, collects, interprets, and preserves primarily regional art. The gallery also creates many public programs to engage the community with art and culture. This amazing gallery is a space to reflect on art and celebrate culture in our city.

The Ottawa Art Gallery is opening up on April 28th. This weekend the gallery is holding so many amazing events as a welcome to the community. There will be events on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday the events include:

Did I mention that the new gallery has two outdoor terraces?! One terrace is huge (2,500 square feet) and the other has a stunning view of Parliament Hill. Your perfect chance to check out the terrace is this Sunday at 9 am. The Dundonald Park Tai Chi group will take their practice to the south terrace on Sunday morning.
