McDonald's Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19 In Downtown Ottawa

If you’ve recently visited McDonald’s in Ottawa, be sure to follow Health Canada’s advice! It was confirmed on Sunday that a McDonald’s employee tested positive for COVID-19 in downtown Ottawa. The restaurant, located at 594 Montreal Rd., near St. Laurent Boulevard, has now been closed for cleaning.

An employee at this McDonald’s restaurant has been officially diagnosed with COVID-19, as explained by a spokesperson for the company.

“Local health authorities confirmed this report,” Ryma Boussoufa said in the statement.

The staff member last worked on April 4, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. EST. According to McDonald's, the employee reported their test results on Saturday, April 11.

In a notice on Sunday, the fast-food giant confirmed that the east end location would be closing until further notice. The restaurant was “immediately” closed on Saturday, and will now undergo “thorough cleaning and sanitation by third party cleaning experts, WINMAR.”

The company added that all crew members and employees who may have been in close contact with the worker are being asked to self-quarantine “until further information is available.”

"We will continue to work with the local health authorities to support our people and our guests and will update this statement as more information is available for health authorities," the McDonald’s statement concludes.

Any members of the public who may have visited this location during this time are being asked to take direction from Ottawa Public Health’s website on reporting symptoms.

While the fast-food company is currently closed to all dine-in customers, it's still possible to get drive-thru, take-out and delivery options.

In a statement in early April, McDonald's Canada committed to adapting their procedures, to "provide the safest environment possible for all the employees working so hard to serve you."

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, one Toronto fast-food location is as busy as ever.

Last Sunday, the McDonald's location on Queen and Spadina was filled to the brim with empty takeout bags, as staff prepared to deal with the huge influx of incoming orders.

Across the city, one loyal little doggo was also hard at work, and personally delivered a McDonald’s package to his quarantined owners.
