UPDATE Dec 28, 2017, 10:30: The word cancelled has now disappeared from the federal governments website. More details to come.
UPDATE Dec 28, 2017, 12:15: It's been announced that DJ's and musical entertainment are cancelled. However, the fireworks, light show and skating will still continue as planned on Parliament Hill.
Well, it's official, looks like 2018 will start off even worse than 2017 did!
The federal government has officially cancelled New Year's Eve New Year's Eve celebrations on Parliament Hill due to extreme cold. This celebration, named Canada 150 Closing Party, was supposed to close all Canada 150 events and ring in the New Year. However, looks like that won't be possible now.
The big celebration was supposed to include skating and dancing, music from various DJs, multimedias shows, and much more. Canada's own hiphop artist Kardinal Offishall was also supposed to perform at the event. The cancellation comes down to everyones safety, and with the frostbite warning in effect, this is definitely the best decision even though we will be missing out on the unique experience of the Canada 150 Closing Party.
According to Environment Canada, on Sunday the temperature will go as low as -20 but with the wind chill it will feel like -29. Looks like the best way to ring in the New Year is to watch Netflix in bed with hot chocolate. Catch me doing that.
