Ottawa New Year's Eve Transit Service Is Free From 5 PM Until 2 AM

It's New Year's Eve, and there are plenty of big events going on across Canada. Ottawa's New Year's Eve celebration at Parliament Hill will be just one of those celebrations. Of course, there will be plenty of other events going on in the city, so it's a good thing Ottawa's residents and visitors can catch a free transit ride.

OC Transpo will be offering free rides starting at 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve and running until 2 a.m. the next day. That's plenty of time to hop between events all night if you want!

In addition to free service, there will also be additional trips all night to accommodate the higher number of passengers. Para Transpo will also be running for free until 2 a.m.

The free transit initiative is sponsored by both Safer Roads Ottawa and the Ottawa Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD).

The OC Transpo site also provides directions on how to get downtown for any big celebrations. They also provide a list of park and ride lots where people can park their cars for the evening instead of driving.

Ottawa is not the only city that is offering free transit on New Year's Eve.

Toronto's TTC and GO services are offering free New Year's Eve service from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., with extended late-night hours for trains and buses.

Similarly, Vancouver's transit service will provide free rides from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day.

While Ottawa has had some problems with its transit this year, especially the new LRT system, it's still good to offer free service in order to prevent drunk drivers from hitting the road.

Entering a new decade is a big deal, and it's understandable that people will want to celebrate. Just make sure to stay safe out there amongst all the partying!
