Sports are supposed to be fun and games, but lets face some die hard sports fanatics sometimes lose sight of that. When you think about it, there are bigger things happening than who wins or loses in the end.
The hockey world is getting a really big reminder of that right now after it was announced a few days ago that the son of Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson had passed away.
Karlsson and his wife Melinda broke their silence on twitter recently to thank fans of not just the Sens, but the entire hockey community for their support in this obviously difficult time.
The tweet says that their son was stillborn and that they know they will hold him again someday.
It adds that the couple “Would like to thank everyone for the love and support we have received and also for respecting our privacy and the process that we need to go through."
Karlsson also posted a tribute to his son on Instagram, which you can look at below.
Tributes for the couples loss continue to pour in on twitter.
Karlsson understandably has not played a game for the Senators since the passing of his son and there is no timeline set for his return to the ice.
But at a moment like this hockey is probably the last thing on his mind.
