You may not know this, but Penticton, B.C. is home to an incredible lazy river that is the perfect place for a float with friends in the sun. If you're a fan of chilling, this is the ultimate way to kick back while also having a blast. The Penticton river float deserves a top spot on your summer 2020 bucket list.
The float takes you down the Penticton River Channel and it's known as “the best Okanagan summer vacation attraction” according to Okanagan Vacation Guide.
The best part is that it’s totally free, all you have to do it hop on the water and float your heart out.
Though Penticton has beautiful beaches, transitioning between tanning and swimming every time you get too hot is just far too much effort. Floating is the perfect way to bask in the sun while staying cool and it takes no effort at all.
Running seven kilometres in length, the channel goes from Okanagan Lake to Skaha Lake.
There’s a halfway point at Green Mountain Road if you don’t want to float the whole way or if you just need to hop out for a break.
The entire channel takes about three or four hours to ride down, though the speed varies depending on water levels and current.
The Okanagan Vacation Guide offers some tips on how to optimize your floating experience.
For example, they say that sunscreen should be a priority which is always a good reminder, especially if you’re about to have up to four hours of sun exposure on the water.
They also advise bringing water and snacks. Water is really important since it’s often 30 C in the summer.
As for your floatation devices, you can bring your own tubes, boats, pizzas, unicorns, or whatever you love to float on.
Or, if you don’t have one of your own, you can rent one from Coyote Cruises at the lunch site.
Speaking of Coyote Cruises, they offer a super handy shuttle service from the halfway point back to the launch site if you left your car at the start.
If you want to ride the whole way, you should leave a car at the endpoint or arrange to be picked up.
The float starts at 215 Riverside Dr. and ends at Skaha Lake.
