People Are Ripping These New Sexy "Handmaid's Tale" Halloween Costumes Apart

The company also has sexy Donald Trump costumes for sale.

You know how it goes this time of year, Halloween shops step up their costume game often resulting in complete fails. Anyone remember Cecil The Lion Killer Costume? Geesh.

Well, this year we've been delighted with yet another failed costume attempt. This year's victims? The characters in the Margaret Atwood novel and subsequent television series, "The Handmaid's Tale".

Women's clothing store, Yandy has released laughable sexified Halloween costumes year after year. The company has put out festive outfits such as a sexy Oompa Loompa and sexy Donald Trump (ew). This year, their sexy "Brave Red Maiden" costume hasn't been receiving any laughs, but instead a lot of hate.

"The Handmaid's Tale" isn't a sexy story in the least. The characters these costumes are based on have been captured by a misogynistic government and essentially used as sex slaves and babymakers for the rich.

How tone deaf does one have to be to think this makes any sense? Have you....watched/read Handmaids Tale? Did you miss the point of it? pic.twitter.com/GX6lQRjbEx

People offended by the costume have taken to social media to rant and they're not holding back. L.A. TV show host, Brian Balthazar tweeted, "If you ever need a reminder that we have a long way to go to end the objectification and humiliation of women, look no further than Halloween costumes. This ‘sexy handmaids tale’ costume pretty much sums it up."

Less than a day of being on sale, Yandy clearly got the message. They removed the costume from their site and issued an apology. They said rather than a symbol of oppression, they saw the costumes as "a powerful protest message" but clearly missed the mark.

The controversial costume will no longer be for sale on their site. If any of you ladies out there still like Yandy's style, nothing is stopping you purchasing their sexy baby or sexy mental patient costumes. There's nothing offensive about those, right? Oh, wait.Source: Huff Post
