You Can Visit This Hidden Park In Phoenix With 7,000-Year-Old Petroglyphs

This is way cooler than your average museum.
You Can See Petroglyphs In Phoenix At This Hidden Park In The City

The Grand Canyon State is full of rich history. Don't take our word of it, you can see it for yourself in person. While some ancient artifacts are in museums, you can discover petroglyphs in Phoenix at this secret spot. These carvings are between 500 and 7,000 years old and this site has over 1,500 of them.

The Deer Valley Petroglyph Site is home to wondrous markings on Hedgpeth Hills. This 47-acre park is protected and is still being researched, but has been open to the public for a little over 20 years.

The entrance fee is $9 per person and goes towards the preservation and research of the site.

While you're visiting you can see petroglyph markings carved into rocks. The markings were made over thousands of years by indigenous people who inhabited the area long ago.

It is thought that this location was once an established settlement for many generations and tribes of Native American peoples, including from "the Western Archaic tradition (5000 BC- 300 AD), the Hohokam (300-1450 AD) and the Patayan (300-1450 AD) cultures."

The park provides you with written materials for a self-guided tour and it's recommended that you bring binoculars to better see the carvings.

You can rent a pair at the preserve if you don't have any for $1 (and let's be honest, how many of us own binoculars?).

The preserve is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from May to September and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from October to April.

Luckily for Arizonians, we can do just that without having to travel super far or book a crazy expensive tour. Arizona is full of ruins and other historical sites

The park is flat and easy to walk through, and the trail is approximately 0.25 miles of gravel pathways.

Museums are fun, but something about seeing historical artifacts out in nature at the site where they were discovered is so much cooler.

There are over 1,500 carvings in the rocks at this site, so be sure to take your time and look closely.

For all you history buffs out there, this hidden gem is an awesome way to immerse yourself in past events.
