Brand New Plant-Based Cheeses Are Now For Sale At Major Ontario Grocery Stores

For many people who are lactose-intolerant, people who eat a vegan diet, or people who are just trying to eat a little healthier, cheese is one of the hardest things to have to go without. Whether it be on pizza, pasta, sandwiches or as a dip or spread, cheese often comes hand in hand with our favourite foods, and to live without it can be tough! Fortunately, plant-based cheese is now available in Ontario!
Life is about to get a little bit cheesier for those who go without regular dairy cheese, thanks to Spread’Em Kitchen Co. They are about to launch a new range of artisanal, plant-based, cashew cheese! Known as ‘cheezes,’ the dairy-free products are now available to buy at all Longo’s and Fortinos stores across Ontario.
If that wasn’t exciting enough, the cashew-based cheese comes in a variety of different flavours that will be available to sample at participating stores near you! Longo’s stores will stock the following flavours: Spinach & Artichoke, Jalapeño Cashew Cream Cheeze, Chive & Garlic Cashew Cream Cheeze, and Nacho Cheeze. While Fortinos will stock all of those, as well as Porcini and Dill flavours too. The possibilities are practically endless!
However, the ‘cheezes’ do come with a pretty hefty price tag, at $10.49 for the standard packet of the plant-based cheese. That said, the company is offering 20 per cent off all products during July at participating stores, which does make the price a lot more reasonable!
As well as being suitable for people who eat dairy-free and vegan, the company also states the cheese products are natural, gluten-free, paleo, fermented, and probiotic-rich, which supports microbiome and gut-health and strengthens the immune system.
The Spread'Em Kitchen Company also added that all Spread'Em 'cheezes' are made in a Canadian production facility, using only “fresh, nourishing, ethically and locally-sourced, premium ingredients.”
The company confirmed that Canada’s updated Food Guide has encouraged a wider range of people to try plant-based products, and the demand for healthy and dairy free options is growing significantly.
The founder of the company, Melissa Mills, added, "Five years ago our 'cheezes' were only available at one farmer's market in Vancouver. Now mass-market grocery stores want to give more Canadians a chance to taste them.” She noted that the name given to fans of the products is "#SpreadHeads."
"The dairy-free cheese category is still in its infancy and its growing demand confirms that natural, whole, nourishing, and fermented foods go beyond niche communities," she said.
