Looking to buy a house in Vancouver? Well, good luck. The housing crisis in our city is insane and finding anything that costs a reasonable amount is next to impossible. We did a little digging and we found out that B.C. private islands are cheaper than buying a house in Vancouver. If this isn’t the most ridiculous thing you’ve heard all day then I don’t know what is.
Finding affordable housing in Vancouver is difficult. Plus, many places don’t accept pets making it harder to find your forever home. Real estate listings are so expensive that a parking stall for sale is currently the cheapest option on one website.
But not all hope is lost. We did manage to find several places in our city that were under one million. But it seems like you might get the most bang of your buck by actually buying a private island.
We know it sounds ridiculous but it’s true. Some of the private islands are reasonably priced and you will get way more space than in that downtown apartment you’ve been eyeing up.
Maybe you and some friends can go in together and make your own party island out of it.
Being able to afford a place in Vancouver means you better work and have a high paying job, too. Many of us won't be able to afford to own a home until we're in our 80s.
Thankfully, there are a number of affordable private islands around B.C. that are just waiting to get inhabited.
According to Unique Properties, there are a number of islands available for purchase. All of them are over one million, but to be entirely honest, it’s not much more than the ones in Vancouver.
Some of them are even cheaper.
One gorgeous island called Jelina Island is on sale right now for $1.1 million. This seven-acre space is actually a reduced price so you're getting a deal.
It even has access to Vancouver, Nanaimo, Comox, and the Sunshine Coast meaning you aren't completely off the grid.
The most expensive island on the website is going for $1,225,000. This 100-acre island is just three miles off the coast of Vancouver Island.
It may seem like a crazy price but it’s really not all things considered. In fact, it’s cheaper than some of the homes in Vancouver right now.
One of the cheapest houses on the Macdonald Realty website is over $39 million. We have to admit it’s gorgeous but it’s not a private island.
We can dream. Here are some of the private islands that could be yours:
