11 Things The World Wouldn't Have Without Saskatchewaners

The cool, weird, and totally bizarre.
11 Things The World Wouldn't Have Without Saskatchewaners

It's kinda crazy to think that Saskatchewan is a pretty major player on the global scale when it comes to things that fuel our day-to-day lives. I think we all have the tendency to take things for granted especially when it's something that seems normal to us. But guys, we ought to start giving some power to the prairies. It's a pretty rad place to live.

You know what else is kinda crazy? The fact that some things wouldn't exist in the world (or it would be reaaally hard to get) if it wasn't for Saskatchewan.

Here are 11 things the world wouldn't have without Saskatchewaners:

If you need to ketchup on your Sask facts knowledge, then here's a little saucy tidbit for you - Saskatchewan produces 75% of the world's mustard. Without it, your hotdog just wouldn't be the same.

The term "hoser"

Meaning a person who steals fuel from farm equipment using a syphon hose. Does it get any more Saskatchewan than that?

Rider Pride

Let's be honest, the world just wouldn't be the same without the beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders and their diehard fans. Watermelon hats probably wouldn't be a thing either.

Saskatchewan is the real OG of the ATM. They were first created by the Credit Union in 1977. You know that feeling you get when you show up to a party and it's cash bar only but you don't have cash? You can thank Sask for fixing that #firstworldproblem.

Chickpeas & Lentils

Yeah, that's right. For all you pulse food lovers out there, Saskatchewan is the leading exporter of pulse foods in the entire world. So if you're wondering why chickpeas are becoming the new quinoa, it's because we have ALOT of them.

The Synchrotron

Not a character from Transformers, just a really big science project. The biggest science project in Canadian history to be exact. It brings in researchers and scientists from around the world to research things like dinosaurs.

Air Ambulance

Saskatchewan is home to one of Canadian bases of the first non-military air ambulances in the world. Today, air ambulance services and the non-profit organization STARS, are leading medical transport systems that save the lives of many critically injured or ill people.

Saskatoon Berries

Saskatchewan produces the largest amount of Saskatoon berries on a global scale. I'd say that gives us bragging rights over Canada's superfruit. When it comes to our desserts, we put that shit on everything.

Scotty the T-Rex

Technically speaking, Scotty no longer exists. It's a tough world out there for a dinosaur to live 65 million years. We do still have Scotty's fossils, though. They were founded in Eastend in 1990's and he's one of the largest ever known.

The term "psychedelic"

True story. In the 1950's, psychiatrist Humphry Osmund used hallucinogens for experimentation with his patients at the Weyburn Mental Hospital. The experiments weren't successful but the term "psychedelic" stuck and later became a buzz word in the 1970's. What a trip!

Fundamental Human Rights

Saskatchewan became the first province to provide fundamental rights and freedoms to all citizens. That's a big deal. Thanks for taking care of your people, Sask.
