From the outside looking in, Saskatchewan is known as that one place in Canada that is either really flat or super cold all the time. Both of those perceptions aren't far from the truth, but I really think it underestimates how great life on the prairies truly is. Saskatchewan isn't the mecca for all things Canadian but it is most certainly a place that deserves serious recognition.
Saskatchewan is an agricultural powerhouse that fuels life beyond its borders, it's a place where communities thrive together, and it's home to some of the most beautiful landscapes that you never even knew existed. Sounds like a pretty amazing place, doesn't it? I think we need to celebrate its greatness more often and today we are going to do just that.
Here are 14 reasons why Saskatchewan is really the best place to live:
We're known as the land of the living skies because of our incredible sunsets and stunning cloud formations
If there's one thing that's captured the most on our Instagram accounts, it's definitely sunset pictures. How can we not obsess over something so beautiful?
Saskatchewanians are the friendly and most welcoming people you'll ever meet.
Canadians, in general, are known to be friendly but I'd have to say that people from Saskatchewan are the friendliest of all.
It's easy to get around from place to place in cities like Regina and Saskatoon
As much as we love to complain about the annoyances of city life like traffic and construction, we have it way easier than most big city centers. We can conveniently jump in our cars to get to where we need to be without commuting for hours or relying on transportation like trains and buses.
We're proud supporters of Saskatchewan entrepreneurs whose businesses help our economy thrive
When it comes down to business, we all want to help each other succeed and I think that's why Saskatchewan is one of the best places to be an entrepreneur. There's a lot of local love that goes around.
It's the only place you can drink Nokomis Golden Ale, Saskatcheweizen, and Milk N Honey Breakfast Ale.
Microbreweries are super trendy right now, especially in Saskatchewan. If you're looking to satisfy your craft beer obsession, you'll find it here.
It's the perfect balance between city and country life
Living costs aren't insanely expensive in Saskatchewan
It's not necessarily as cheap to live here but compared to other places in Canada, but we can easily find a decent place that doesn't put us into soul-crushing debt.
We have an appreciation for locally grown and sourced food because of our strong agricultural industry
The rural community in Saskatchewan works really hard to produce food that is natural and homegrown. Our farmers' markets are proof that the local food industry is really starting to boom.
The prairie landscape is a natural wonder
Living in a place where the majority of the landscape is entirely flat doesn't seem overly exciting, but when you can look ahead and see miles into the horizon, it's a pretty cool thing and we should really embrace the beauty of it more often.
Our prairie cities and rural communities are tight-knit
There are downsides to living in a place where everybody knows everybody but the upside is that people are more willing to support each other and that creates a sense of community that brings people closer together.
It's home to some of Canada's best athletes
Sports play a big role in Saskatchewan culture, especially hockey. We've had a number of our athletes make the big leagues over the years and we're super proud of them.
It's a great place to storm watch in the summertime
Just another reason why Saskatchewan is The Land of The Living Skies. During the summer time, you can see a major thunderstorm rolling in miles away and watch as it transforms the sky around you into a spectacular lightning show.
There are many surreal places to visit in Saskatchewan that aren't crowded with tourists
Most people don't consider Saskatchewan to be the #1 spot for travel within Canada and that's what actually makes it a great place to visit. You can tour around city centers and vast prairie landscapes and truly enjoy the experience.
We are really proud of our Saskatchewan roots
If you talk to anyone from Saskatchewan, chances are they will tell you how happy they are to be from here because no matter where life takes you, Saskatchewan will always feel like home.
