Let's be real, Saskatoon's food scene is delicious and of late, it only keeps getting better. This summer, there are 9 new food and drink places in the city that you have to put on your bucket list and check out.
The list includes a new restaurant from Top Chef Canada winner Dale Mackay, new food trucks, and more than one ice-cream place. Say good-bye to your familiar favourites for a while — this line-up is sure to keep you occupied and your taste buds satisfied this summer.
Hometown Diner // 210 20th Street W
Hometown Diner literally just opened, and you want to be the first to sample their incredible menu. They serve all day breakfast and lunch, and the restaurant's vibe is oh-so-cute.
What to try: The breakfast sandwich, eggs benny, and one of their doughnuts.
Fable Ice Cream // 635E Ave H S
This adorable ice-cream shop is making waves with their made-from-scratch ice-cream and fresh waffle cones. Since you're probably going to become obsessed once you go there, they also have take home pints available.
What to try: Peanut Butter Cup, Lemonade, Earl Grey, and Salted Caramel flavours.
Cathedral Social Hall // 608 Spadina Crescent E
Replacing the former Spadina Freehouse (#RIP), Cathedral Social Hall is the newest place everyone's buzzing about. Their patio has incredible views of downtown and their beer menu is stocked with local picks.
What to try: Flights of beer to sample four of your favourites, their weekend brunch, and one of their perogie dishes.
Fatburger // 115 Betts Ave #130
Saskatoon's newest Burger Joint may be a classic elsewhere, but it's new to us and so far, we love it! Fatburger is known for their deliciously creamy milkshakes, and juicy burgers.
What to try: The Original Fatburger, Onion Rings, Fat Fries, and the Cookies & Ice Cream Milkshake.
9 Mile Legacy Taproom // 229 20th Street W
This Saskatoon Brewery just opened up a taproom, where you can sit back with a cold glass of beer, fill up a growler, or try a taster flight. Although many Saskatoon restaurants carry their beer, now you can sample it right where it's made!
What to try: The 9 Mile Ale for a classic English Pale Ale, the Black Wit for a darker beer, or the Coffee Porter — brown porter with coffee.
Gud Eats Inc. // Food Truck
Say hello to Saskatoon's first-ever plant-based vegan food truck (all vegans can collectively have a good, happy cry over this one). The truck is set to start rolling soon this summer, so stay tuned to their Facebook page for details once it's ready.
What to try: The Mac N' Cheez, New York Cheezecake, and Bourbon BBQ Burger.
Sticks and Stones // 226 2nd Ave S
Another delicious restaurant from Top Chef Canada winner Dale MacKay, this time bringing you Japanese fare. The vibe is upscale, the cocktails are unique, and the food is delicious.
What to try: The sushi, the Seafood Pancakes, the Steamed Buns, and the Spicy Pork Ribs.
The Wholesome Roll // Food Truck
This just might be the coolest new Saskatoon dessert place! The Wholesome Roll is a rolled ice-cream truck, and the most unique part is that it is made and rolled right in front of you eyes. Also: it's 100% dairy-free with no added sugar, and it still tastes ahhhhmazing.
What to try: The Saskatoon Berry or Pina Colada flavours, and the Ice Cream Taco.
Picaro // 101 20th Street W
Picaro is a Latin restaurant by the same owners as UNA Pizza + Wine, so you know it's gonna be unreal. They're set to open in late summer 2017, but they're doing pop-ups as teasers. Keep an eye on their Instagram to stay in the loop for their official opening!
What to try: Chicken Adobo Taco with Salsa Roja, Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita, and the Churros.
