Canada's national coffee chain is revamping its annual game in some big ways. Roll Up The Rim To Win 2020 is starting on March 11 and there are four weeks to win prizes. There are still so many things you can win but now you can play the iconic game digitally.
Tim Hortons announced on February 19 that Roll Up The Rim is finally happening this year and the contest has been changed up to also allow for digital and sustainable play for its 35th anniversary.
The game will run from March 11 until April 7, so people across the country have just over a month to try and win any of the more than 17 million prizes up for grabs.
For the first two weeks of the contest, paper cups with the roll-up tab will be available but only as long as supplies last. During this time, Tims Reward members also get a bonus roll in the app, giving them two chances to play.
After that, the contest is only on the mobile app.
Registered members who scan their card or app when buying a hot beverage in a regular disposable cup will get a digital roll in the app or online.
So when buying a hot beverage in-store and scanning a Tims Rewards card, people won't get a special cup but they'll still get a digital roll.
As part of the revamp, people who buy a hot beverage in a reusable cup or mug will also get three digital rolls for the duration of the contest.
Even though the contest is revamped, the prizes we've come to know are still available like free coffees and donuts but there is something new too.
These are all the prizes:
- Over 17 million coffee and food prizes, including Dream Donuts
- 45,000 $25 TimCards
- 200 Samsung 55" NU6900 Smart 4K UHD TVs
- 150 $1,000 CIBC Prepaid Cards
- 100 40,000 AIR MILES Reward Miles – enough for a trip for two
- 10 2020 Hyundai IONIQ Electric or Hybrid Vehicles
- Four draws of $100,000 (NEW)
The dreaded Please Play Again is being replaced with four $100,000 draws.
So when people don't win a prize on a digital roll, they'll be entered into one of the four draws for that cash.
To be eligible for the draws, customers have to scan their registered Tim Rewards card and not win anything on that roll.
Paper cups aren't included in this and the losing cups are meant to encourage people to use the app next time.
For people who scan a non-registered Tims Rewards card, the rolls will accumulate on their card and can be played when the card is registered.
Those customers have until April 21 to register their cards and play them.
To start the contest off, Tims will be giving out 1.8 million reusable hot beverage cups for free beginning on March 10 as part of the company's commitment to change habits towards reusable cups.
The coffee chain is also making changes to its rewards program and moving to a points-based system on February 26.
