Leave it to Ryan Reynolds to totally save the day. He recently gave the actress from the negatively received Peloton commercial a chance to get back on the big screen. Monica Ruiz appeared in a video for Aviation Gin which was meant to poke fun at how no one liked the ad the exercise bike company posted last month. The story behind it will warm your heart because Ryan Reynolds hired the Peloton wife for a very kind reason.
The original video was published by the Peloton YouTube channel on November 21 and already racked up over 8 million views. The comments are turned off and the dislikes are up to 22,000 because of the controversy surrounding the ad.
Over the weekend, Reynolds decided to hop on the trend and featured the same actress in a commercial for the gin company he bought in 2018 which is also ranked as the best spirit by a celebrity.
Luckily, it seems that people have more of an issue with the Peloton team than the actual actress.
The Canadian actor spoke with The New York Times about the commercial and told them that he understood the criticism she's been getting.
Reynolds said, "As an actor, I can certainly relate to creating a piece of content or being part of something that’s not well received, and how alienating that can feel. We had immense respect for any reservations she might have had. We don’t want to make the situation any worse for her."
The incredibly sweet Deadpool star also told them that he had to act quick because "ads are generally disposable pieces of content."
He added, "If you’re going to do something like this, you have to jump on the zeitgeist-y moment as it happens."
Just yesterday, he also posted a photo on his Instagram story of him passing by a Peloton building with a suspiciously funny look on his face.
People spoke with Ruiz about her experience working with Reynolds.
She told them, "When Ryan and his production team called about Aviation Gin, they helped me find some humour in the situation. I am grateful to both Peloton and now Aviation Gin for the work and giving me the opportunity to do what I love to do."
Ruiz also expressed to People that she was "shocked and overwhelmed by the attention" she received.
