Praise the kind Canadians! Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively donated $1 million to food banks to aid in COVID-19 relief. It will be split between charities in Canada and the US.
The former Green Lantern co-stars announced on social media yesterday that they will both be donating to those in need.
Vancouver born Reynolds wrote, "Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and low-income families. Blake & I are donating $1 million to be split between FEEDING AMERICA and FOOD BANKS CANADA. If you can give, those orgs need our help."
He continued, "Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who's isolated and might need connection. (Hugh Jackman's # is 1-555-😢-HUGH)".
That last part was a reference to the actors' ongoing, sarcastic feud with each other. We can only assume it was just for kicks and isn't Jackman's real number.
Reynolds accompanied the post with a caption reading, "I think we can all agree, Covid-19 is an asshole. If you’re able to help, visit, @feedingamerica and @foodbankscanada".
On Lively's post she shared, "Though we must be distancing ourselves to protect those who don't have the opportunity to self-quarantine, we can stay connected. Remember the lonely and isolated. Facetime, Skype, make a video. Remember the love that can travel through all this. Communities are stepping up–shopping for the elderly, making lunches for children. We can all do something for one another, even if that's simply staying home."
She continued, "Sending so much love. Now can someone please tell Ryan that 'emotional distancing' from his mother in law is not a thing. Nothing can save him."
The couple, who have been married since 2012, is nothing short of hilarious and generous during these difficult times.
According to Variety, their donation will be going a long way.
Dan Nisbet, vice president of Major Gifts at Feeding America, told Variety that, "We are so grateful for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s extremely generous donation, and for all of the donations we’ve been receiving. The Feeding America network of 200 food banks is working tirelessly to aid and provide meal assistance to our most vulnerable neighbours — children, the elderly, families struggling with food insecurity and individuals facing job disruptions — throughout our nation during this unprecedented time. Generosity like theirs will make all the difference."
Food Banks Canada is a non-profit organization that operates out of its main office in Mississauga, Ontario. They have about 450 food banks all over the country that feed millions of people each year.
Both Reynolds and Lively encouraged those who are able to help to visit the websites of the food banks in Canada and the US.
