This superhero is put on hold! The movie theatre release date for Ryan Reynolds' Free Guy got postponed to later this year. So you'll have to keep your pressed shirt and tie costume in storage for a little longer.

The trailer for the new sci-fi comedy first dropped in December with a release date set for July 3.

However, the Vancouver-born star announced on Instagram today that it will be postponed until December 11.

That means it'll be the perfect pre-Christmas present for you  and your pals to enjoy.

In the video he posted, a clip of Reynolds' character named Guy is seen sitting in his kitchen munching on cereal while watching the news. Outside of his window is a mess of gunfire, police sirens, and complete chaos.

Reynolds added the caption, "Free Guy is moving to ‪Dec. 11th! Here's a weirdly appropriate clip, which isn’t actually finished. We cut it a while ago (while there was still a “Fox” before @20thcenturystudios). Ignore the watermarks. And thanks to #Aspect for cutting it."

According to IMDb, Guy is a bank teller who discovers that he's part of a video game as a non-player character. Thanks to his discovery, he uses his superpowers to rewrite the game and save it before the developers shut it down.

Reynolds stars alongside Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rey Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Taika Waititi, and Camille Kostek.

Back in December at a Comic-Con Experience Convention in Brazil, the father of three shared that, "Free Guy is my favourite movie I've ever made, and that means a lot to me because I made Deadpool."

It seems the actor certainly likes his superhero roles because he created and starred in Deadpool 1 and 2 in 2016 and 2018. He played the character named Deadpool under the alter ego, Wade Wilson.

Free Guy is among dozens of premieres, events, and movie filmings currently on pause. Rest assured, though, the new flick will be coming this year, just five months later than originally planned.
