Sandra Oh’s Grey Anatomy Return May Never Happen But It’s For A Good Reason

Sandra Oh broke hearts around the world when she left the hit show Grey's Anatomy in season 10. Her last season premiered in 2013, and almost 6 years later, die-hard fans are still awaiting her comeback. However, Sandra Oh's Grey's Anatomy return may never happen. It may seem devastating for those who want just one more dance from Dr. Cristina Yang and Dr. Meredith Grey, but her absence may be a good thing.

It is always sad when your favourite character leaves a show. They don't even have to be your favourite, they can just be a pivotal character.

Ever since 2013 when *spoiler alert* Dr. Cristina Yang accepted a job to be Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Switzerland, fans of Grey's Anatomy have been getting false hope thrown at them.

Sandra Oh's character has made brief appearances throughout the season 16, with little texts to Meredith here and there. She even wrote a letter to the board as to why Meredith should be given her medical license back. BFF goals.

Kevin McKidd, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt, also wants his ex-wife to make an appearance on the show. In an interview with BUILD Series on YouTube, McKidd said, "I often wonder, I'm like you know cause Meredith seems to be in contact with Cristina all the time, so does Owen? Do they just not text each other? I mean they must sort of direct message each other sometimes."

Even though the cast wanting Oh to come back may leave a glimmer of hope, it's unlikely. Sandra Oh is currently on a show called Killing Eve, which is becoming as successful as Grey's Anatomy.

Killing Eve has a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes and it has two seasons and filming for the third wrapped in August. The hit show isn't the only reason she most likely won't return to Grey's Anatomy.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in 2013, Oh said, "Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go". She reveals she began thinking of her exit in 2012, went through "a lot of therapy", and "gave myself two years to emotionally let go".

The Canadian actress told THR that at the end of season 9, show creator Shonda Rhimes pulled her aside and asked: "What are your thoughts?" Oh replied, "I'm ready".

Cue the tears. Even though we all may be ready for Dr. Cristina Yang to make her comeback, it seems like Oh moved on a while ago.

Oh has won two Golden Globe Awards. One in 2005 for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, or Television Film for Grey's Anatomy. Earlier this year, she won her second award, but this time it was for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama for Killing Eve. Oh has come full circle.

We may not see the Princess Diaries star returning to Grey's Anatomy, but you can catch her in season 3 of Killing Eve which will premiere in mid-2020.
