See Twinkling Stars In Alberta: This Secret Spot Has The Best Stargazing In Canada

Make a wish on a shooting star. When you live in the city, it can be challenging to spot constellations like the Big Dipper. But we know of a magical place where you can stargaze like you never have before. It is time to plan a road trip to this mesmerizing dark sky preserve where you can see twinkling stars in Alberta.

Jasper National Park is best known as the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. But this gorgeous spot boasts more than bright blue lakes and towering mountains.

Did you know here you can also find the second largest Dark Sky Preserve in the entire world? The area is so massive it is 11,000 square kilometres.

To give you an idea of how big that is, it is much larger than the countries of Monaco in the French Rivera, and Vatican City put together.

It is one of 17 Dark Sky Preserves in the country, and an otherworldly spot to spend an evening.

So why is stargazing here so unique? It is an area where there are no artificial lights visible so you can easily enjoy a starry night.

According to Parks Canada, three of the best areas to enjoy the sights are Pyramid Island, Maligne Lake, and Old Fort Point.

Even without a telescope, you can enjoy viewing a meteor shower or a sky filled with a kaleidoscope of stars. It makes for a romantic date spot to lay under the night sky and try to spot far constellations.

Who knows, maybe you can spot your astrological sign, like Gemini or Leo.

For those of you hoping to take a photo of the view, you'll want to make sure you bring a tripod.

If you don't have a DSRL camera, you'll need to set your phone to a low aperture, or nighttime mode.

If you don't live nearby, you might want to consider booking one of the campsites within the park.

This way, you won't be in any rush to return home and can enjoy the magical view all evening.
