If you grew up in Canada over the past decade or so, odds are pretty good that you've experienced what's become known as "Bieber Fever" once or twice over the years. For so long, Justin Bieber held the title as Canada's reigning prince of Pop - until Shawn Mendes came around, that is. Justin Bieber & Shawn Mendes are still competing for the title of Canada's "Prince of Pop".

On Friday, May 3rd, Shawn Mendes made an appearance on Elvis Duran and The Morning Show where he talked about many exciting things, including who he thinks would win in a fight between him and Justin Bieber.

"I think I'm bigger, and I weigh more, but I think he has another like, type of level that he can click into that I don't have. I don't possess the switch that I think he [has]," Mendes explained on the show this morning.

The whole hilarious Canadian bromance happening between the two began a few weeks back, when The Observer magazine gave Shawn the title of "Prince of Pop". After hearing the news on Instagram, Bieber was quick to comment and challenge Mendes to a classic Canadian game of ice hockey.

Shortly after Bieber's challenge on Insta, Shawn said in an interview that he'd be more than happy to accept, but we're still waiting to see the two pop stars lace up their skates for the friendly competition.

In the interview, Shawn also admitted that he was hesitant to even post The Observer cover because he didn't want people to think that he had given himself the title, or think that he was feeling self-righteous about the magazine's declaration. Despite his reservations, he decided to post anyways, which led to Bieber's hilarious comment.

"He's so funny," Mendes gushed to Elvis Duran. "I honestly pretty much live to see the comments he posts on photos now because they're hilarious. He's so real life about everything now, it's great." Mendes also went on to say that Bieber has always been one of his idols, and is a big reason why he pursued music in the first place.

Last night, Mendes dropped a new single, If I Can't Have You, in which he shouts out Toronto multiple times. Bieber has also promised new music coming soon, which we're all so excited for. Don't worry boys, there's room in all of our hearts for two Canadian popstars.
