I think we all recall that Shia LaBeouf kind of went off the deep end a couple years back, struggling majorly with substance abuse. We hate to see yet another young Disney star get into trouble, but Shia's 2017 arrest in Georgia was an eye-opening event for the Even Stevens star. During his speech at the Hollywood Film Awards, Shia LaBeouf actually thanked the Savannah police officer who arrested him.
Shia LaBeouf was arrested two years ago in Savannah, Georgia for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and obstruction. His 4 a.m. arrest went viral when bodycam footage was released of the actor shouting vulgar language.
He has since come forth publicly on Twitter, apologizing and admitting that he is ashamed for his obscene behavior.
If that didn't hint that the former Disney star may turn a new leaf, his heartfelt expression of gratitude toward the Savannah policeman who arrested him will sure prove it further. "I want to thank the police officer who arrested me in Georgia for changing my life," states LaBeouf during an acceptance speech for his screenwriting award for Honey Boy at the Hollywood Film Awards Sunday night (November 3).
It's pretty clear that Shia has cleaned his act up during his time in rehab, where he wrote the script for Honey Boy, which will be released in theatres this Friday.
We feel nothing but sympathy for his struggles and we're so glad he's overcome so much. And of course, we can't forget his super passionate "Just Do It" video.
Shia has always had a humble spirit and a big heart and it shows, hence his appearance on Ellen yesterday where he shared his love for cuddling.
