Whether you’ve been out of the tech game for a couple of years or a long while, Shopify’s Welcome Back program is here to make the transition just a little bit (okay, a lot) easier. As a multi-channel commerce platform, Shopify allows merchants to design, set-up, and manage their stores online and IRL. Headquartered in Ottawa with 800,000 clients (and counting), Shopify’s client base includes the likes of Unilever and Kylie Cosmetics.
Needless to say, Shopify is the real deal, so if you’re a software developer, you're definitely going to want in on their Welcome Back program. Designed for those who have taken an extended absence (think parental, sick, or personal leave), the program is all about helping you refresh your skills with workshops and custom programming, all led by Shopify’s very own engineering and learning development teams!
This is especially helpful when it comes to the world of tech, because we all know just how fast-moving the industry can be. From technical skills development and context gathering to cross-team communication and problem identification, what makes Welcome Back even cooler is that, upon completion, developers and engineers are ready to re-enter the workforce at a senior level.
By this point, you’re probably beyond excited, so allow us to do what we do best and hype you up even more. The program runs for three months, from October to December, in downtown Ottawa (transit accessible), Monday to Friday from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM After the first month, each participant will be partnered with a Shopify mentor to further support growth and well-being within the program.
To participate, Welcome Back requires the following:
You’ve been out of the software development workforce for a minimum of 2 years
You have 3+ years of experience as a professional software developer
Strong foundation in OO principles and fluency in at least one OO language (it’s totally fine if you’re rusty!)
A love of software, and a curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things
