On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, the Vancouver Canucks named their team captain for the 2019/20 season. The huge announcement at the team's 50th home opener notified fans that number 53, Bo Horvat would be wearing the C this year. In response, Vancouver Bo Horvat fans are flooding him with love and congratulations after being named captain and it could not be more heartwarming.
Bo Horvat is officially the Canucks' team captain and fans are over the moon. Horvat shared a heartfelt message on Instagram on October 10, expressing his gratitude to the Canucks, his teammates, and the fans. In response, the post has blown up with an outpour of support from members of the NHL community, celebrities, and fans.
"I still remember it like it was yesterday…almost 7 years ago, standing on stage and pulling this jersey over my head for the first time," Horvat began.
In 2013, Horvat was selected 9th overall in the NHL draft when his career began as a center for the Vancouver Canucks.* Currently only 24 years old, Bo joined the Canucks when he was just 17.
"Since that day, I have been lucky to learn what this jersey really means and stands for. Hard work, history, perseverance and the privilege to represent one of the world’s great cities, the province of BC and an incredible, diverse fanbase," his post continued.
After speaking about his great leaders over the years and explaining that he and his team plan to work towards their goal of bringing the championship home to Vancouver, he concludes with “Thank you again for this honour. The best is yet to come. -Bo”
Horvat's message did not go unnoticed. With 10s of thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, this guy has got some serious support from Canucks Nation.
Various celebrities like actor Locklyn Munro and musician Shawn Hook joined the comment feed, expressing their excitement for Horvat. As you'd expect, a lot of love flooded in from other hockey players, too.
On top of the love from the hockey community, Vancouver Canucks fans from around the globe joined in on the celebration.
Needless to say, fans are fired up. Though there was a lot of speculation regarding who would be named captain, it seems that this announcement has not disappointed.
