Bianca Andreescu Dated Another Canadian Tennis Player Before Becoming A Star
Bianca Andreescu and Ben Sigouin used to be at the same level.
Many are familiar with that sinking feeling that comes with seeing an ex thrive on social media post-breakup. However, most of us also don’t have exes as famous as Bianca Andreescu. Sadly, that’s not the case for Ben Sigouin, the up and coming Canadian tennis star whole stole Bianca’s heart in 2017. Way back before she won the U.S. Open and .
According to Heavy, Ben and Bianca first met through the juniors tournament circuit at a time when they were both rising stars in their community. In fact, both of them were the male and female champions at the Playsight Skills Challenge at the Odium Brown VanOpen.
The two shared a touching moment as Andreescu entered the quarter-finals.
The duo also didn't shy away from getting flirty on Instagram. Sigouin posted a shot of the couple at One Dundas Square in Toronto with the caption “at 1 with my number 1,” to which Bianca adorably responded, “I like me better when I’m with you.”
It’s clear that for a time, the two were head over heels for each other, but it seems that their lives led them down different paths.
While Bianca was planning out what would eventually turn into her, Ben chose to play in the NCAA and attend the University Of North Carolina before going pro.
“...it is not always easy to turn pro. You need a bit more time to mature both physically and mentally to be able to compete with that caliber of players...,” Sigouin told Tennis Canada about his decision.
Whether it was the long distance or busy schedules that ended their fling is anyone’s guess. The two seem to have broken up sometime after Ben decided to pursue further education. They haven't been photographed together in years and they also unfollowed each other on social media.
Since then, Bianca has gone to become Canada's youngest new tennis icon, with TV show appearances under her belt, a key to her home city, and 657,000 followers on Instagram. Ben has flourished — granted, more modestly — in the NCAA, and has just under 2,000 Instagram followers.
If they stayed together, Bianca and Ben could've been a tennis power couple. But, what's meant to be will always be!
