Breathe Raptors fans, breathe. Yes, it’s true - new reports confirm that Kawhi Leonard booked a meeting with the LA Clippers, but it’s not over yet. According to Yahoo Sports, the Finals MVP recently opted out of his $21.3 million player option to become an unassociated free agent. Now that Kawhi is a free man, it makes sense that he would see what all the major contenders would have to offer. As it stands right now, no one can offer him what Toronto can.
Toronto is still very much favoured to win the all-star over. According to CBC, the Raptors are the only team that can offer Kawhi a maximum deal of five years and a whopping $190 million. So, we're still in the game.
Also, there’s the fact that Kawhi is once again an NBA Champion and is now considered a living legend in Toronto. There are some undeniable perks involved with that kind of prestige.
Despite all this, it appears that Kawhi is still at least willing to consider what the Clippers have to offer. According to The Athletic's Frank Isola, Kawhi is scheduled to meet up with the Clippers on July 2nd, as Toronto collectively holds its breath in anticipation.
So, what are the odds of the Raptors keeping Kawhi? Well, according to new figured by Oddshark, Toronto is now sitting pretty with a -225 chance of taking home the baller. The Clippers hold the second-best odds at +175. The next teams in line would be the Lakers at +800, Knicks +1400 and finally the Nets at +1600.
Will he stay, or will he go? Only time will tell, but let's all cross our fingers anyway. Just in case.
