When it comes to the Raptors, there are the bandwagoners and then there are the die-hard fans, and these two definitely fall into the latter category. Two Canadian men made a heartfelt bid to Kawhi Leonard after climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro this week. The two climbers made the daring ascent, Canada flag in hand, declaring their Raptors pride with a tribute to the beloved Finals MVP.
According to their account, their journey to the top of the Kilimanjaro was a harrowing experience. It supposedly took the two men, who were sick with food poisoning, seven days and 75 km to reach the top of Africa’s tallest mountain. They did it all just to deliver a “once in a lifetime message to Kawhi.”
In the video, the two men can be seen standing on the peak of the mountain holding up a Canadian flag. “Alright a lot of blood sweat and tears went into this one, but we finally made it to the top of Kilimanjaro,” one fan says, before launching into his heartwarming message for Kawhi.
“I know, Kawhi you just won us the championship, made us proud Canadians, if you wanted to stay that would be awesome, if you’re going to leave and do something else, we totally understand.” The men also explain in the short clip that they’ve been entirely out of the “Kawhi Watch” loop since they haven’t had internet in 7 days.
The touching video concludes with a stunning view of the skyline from the top of the mountain. We can only hope that someone shows the tribute to Kawhi. If anyone deserves to have their message heard by the Boardman himself, it's them!
As it stands right now, Kawhi is still a free agent. Toronto is rumoured to be heavily favoured to sign him this season, but no official announcement has been made yet.
