In heartbreaking news for Toronto Raptors fans, it was reported earlier Saturday morning that Kawhi Leonard is leaving. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Leonard, who was a free agent is going to be signing with the Los Angeles Clippers.
This comes after weeks, even months, of Toronto doing everything possible to convince Kawhi to stay, whether it was offering him a free penthouse condo, letting him eat for free across the city, or creating a petition politely asking him to stay. Unfortunately, it didn't work. In this situation, it would make sense for fans to be absolutely devastated but that doesn't seem to be the case. Instead, people are having the most Canadian reaction ever to this Kawhi news.
Just hours after the reports of Kawhi leaving first came in, Canadians and Raptors fans around the world have flooded Twitter with their messages of love and support for the MVP.
While there is obvious sadness and disappointment among all the messages, the most common response from fans is simply saying "thank you Kawhi." In fact, it is even trending on Twitter Saturday morning as thousands of Canadians show their gratitude for the former Raptor. We can't help but notice that this nice of a reaction is the most Canadian thing ever.
Here's only some of what fans have to say about Kawhi leaving:
Adrian Wojnarowski reported on his Twitter Saturday morning that Kawhi had "informed runners-up teams of his plans: He's signing with the clippers." He later reported that Kawhi has taken a deal for $142 million over four years.
