The Raptors' historic win last night against the Golden State Warriors has left many wondering about the future of their star player, Kawhi Leonard. Not to mention, the team also announced their MVP was the same coveted Raptor. While this was not surprising, fans still have one question about the new MVP: Will Kawhi Leonard stay in Toronto?
It's on so many people's minds that in his first post-game interview and right after accepting his MVP trophy, Kawhi was asked by Hall-of-Famer sports reporter, Doris Burke, if he was going to resign with the championship winning team.
Leonard, who is going to be a free agent after this season, actually answered her question too, but of course, he did so in his classic and cryptic way. In response to the question about his future, Kawhi simply said, "I'm gonna enjoy this [win] with my teammates and coaches, and I'll think about that later."
While this answer doesn't give Toronto Raptors fans any sure answers about the future of our star player, there is a glimmer of optimism here. In saying, "I'll think about it later" this likely means that Kawhi has not officially decided to leave Toronto either and there is still hope that he'll stay.
This is the second glimmer of hope for fans. Earlier this week, in a pre-game interview, Kawhi Leonard was asked to address rumours that he had purchased property in Toronto. While he denied all these rumours, he did say that he hadn't bought a house yet.
That very distinct "yet" was further proof to Raptors fans that Kawhi is still considering a future here in the North.
Kawhi Leonard isn't the only Raptor who's future is uncertain right now. There are a number of other free agents on the team, most notably Marc Gasol, who is expected to sign a player option with the Raptors, and Danny Green who will also be a free agent soon.
