On Sunday evening, the Los Angeles Galaxy became the first away team in the MLS to win in this year's playoffs. The Galaxy defeated Minnesota United 2-1 after a hard-fought battle at Allianz Field.
To the delight of soccer fans the world over, the first-round playoff win by the Galaxy set up the perfect conference semifinal matchup. But before we get to the glorious LA showdown, we need to discuss something bigger than Los Angeles. We need to talk Zlatan Ibrahimovic and how he rounded his troops after a major MLS Playoff victory and delivered one heck of a captain's speech.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of the most successful soccer players of all time. The Swede has won a major title in every country he has played. Clearly, he is looking to keep that trending going by lifting an MLS Cup this year.
When asked what would happen if he fails to do so, his answer was as follows:
"Still the best in history in U.S. No worries."
Zlatan kept that same confidence and composure post-match as well. While the Galaxy striker was not able to net a goal in Minnesota, he certainly made sure to play the role of a captain when he reminded his teammates to keep their eyes on the prize.
While the victory in Minnesota was huge, it's certainly not what the Galaxy set out to accomplish at the beginning of the season and certainly not what they recruited a player like Zlatan Ibrahimovic for.
Being the winner that he is, Zlatan felt the need to remind the Galaxy what's what.
Here's the ultimate pep talk Zlatan delivered for his team. Fortunately enough, we feel it's the best way to kick off your week as well.
That's the kind of speech movies are made of.
The Twittersphere was loving the inspiration delivered by the Lion.
The ultimate MLS playoff showdown will take place on Thursday night as the Galaxy face LA FC. We know the Galaxy will be pumped thanks in part to Zlatan.
