It's Friyay, and hopefully your weekend plans are looking good. Apart from kicking back and relaxing, Friday means many people take a walk down memory lane. Thanks to everything that comes along with social media, #flashbackfriday has definitely become a staple part of many folks' Friday routines.
Thanks to @TheHoopCentral, NBA fans have flashed back to one of the most insane slam dunks ever. Unfortunately for Miami Heat fans, that dunk was from one Vince Carter right in Alonzo Mourning's grill.
The dunk in question occurred back in 2005. Vince Carter played for the New Jersey Nets at the time. The Heat was on defense.
Carter, one of the most notorious dunkers the league has ever seen, beautifully breezed past Jason Williams with a sweet behind-the-back move.
'Vincanity' saw an open lane so he took it. What else would you expect from the player once regarded as "Air Canada" from his Toronto Raptor days? As he approached the Heat rim, Miami legend Alonzo Mourning stepped up on defense. While Zo has always been one of the greatest Heat defenders, the Center did not see things go his way that night as he rose to block Carter's attack.
What resulted was one of Carter's greatest dunks in his career. See for yourself.
The reaction from the Nets' bench says it all. The dunk is just filthy.
To add insult to injury on this #flashbackfriday, the clip Hoop Central posted includes a post-match interview by none other than Dwyane Wade where the Heat legend has a laugh at Mourning's expense and admits that that dunk was "Top ten in the whole history of the NBA."
The Vice President of Player Programs and Developments did not take things well either. In an interview with ESPN last year, Carter revealed that Zo did not speak to him for six to seven years!
On the bright side, if you're going to get dunked on by anyone, I think most people would agree that getting dunked on by Vince Carter would be the best option.
So it's only right to cue the infamous Zo GIF right about now.
Happy 'Friyay' everyone!
