NBA Preseason is in full swing and basketball fans around the world are delighted that their favorite athletes are back in action. The 2019 Atlanta Hawks players are looking to bounce back after a disappointing season last year.
The Hawks ended up in 12th place in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs. One of the main storylines of the season will also surely be Vince Carter's farewell tour. The NBA legend is set to complete the longest career in the league as he embarks on his 22nd season.
During the Hawks' first preseason game on Monday (October 7), Carter got to meet the potential leader of the next generation of slam dunk heroes, Zion Williamson. The Internet loved what seemed to be a passing of the torch moment as the two ballers chatted before and after the game.
At this point, it's common knowledge that Vince Carter is one of, if not, the greatest dunker in NBA history. He is responsible for one of the greatest in-game dunks of all time. He just so happened to pull it off at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Carter quite literally jumped over one of the tallest men on the court during that dunk. It never gets old.
While he is no longer getting up there like that anymore, Carter can still ball. He pulled this sweet pass off during the Hawks' game Monday night.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the New Orleans Pelicans won the Monday night game. Zion Williamson had some responsibility for the Hawks' defeat.
By responsibility, we mean that the kid absolutely showed out.
While we may have mentioned that some rims were getting punished during preseason already, we just can't get tired of watching Zion do his thing.
So it's always nice to see two separate generations of dunkers meet. Check out these encounters between Carter and Williamson from Monday night.
Here are the two dunkers post-match:
Maybe we'll be able to see this type of generational torch-passing when LeBron plays against Bronny.
The Hawks host the Orlando Magic tonight for their second preseason game.
