Hockey players hold special places in the hearts for Canadians. We all have our favourites, wearing their names proudly on jerseys since we were children. Jarome Iginla is a serious fan-favourite, especially for Albertans. As you probably knew, Iggy grew up in Alberta. Now, in a massive act of tribute, his home town, St. Albert is naming an arena after Jarome Iginla.
The City of St. Albert announced their plan to rename Akinsdale Arena to Jarome Iginla Arena today. On Aug. 25, Albertans are invited to the arena naming ceremony at Iggy’s new namesake arena.
The ceremony will include a free BBQ, a massive street hockey game, public skating, and an appearance by the man himself, Jarome Iginla. Iggy’s family and friends will also be in attendance so you don’t want to miss this.

Jarome Iginla is the hero of many hockey fans and Canadians alike. A deserving recipient of such an honour, we can't wait to go for a skate at the newly re-named arena.

The hometown hero got his start playing for the St. Albert Eagle Raiders minor hockey team before being drafted to the NHL. He spent more of his career as the captain of the Calgary Flames.
He was also an All-Star Play and Lester B. Pearson award recipient. On top of that, he helped Canada win a World Cup in 2004 and two Olympic goal medals in 2010 and 2002. A pretty remarkable career, to say the least.
