Whether you like it or not, Starbucks always comes up with exciting, new drink ideas for special events and the 2018 holiday season is no different. While Starbucks is bringing back all their classic holiday drinks, like the Peppermint Mocha and Eggnog Latte, there is a fresh-faced contender in the mix and that's the brand new Juniper Latte.
In the company's press release, they describe the drink as a reminder of the holiday season from scent to taste. Starbucks' new holiday latte is supposed to represent the holidays with an evergreen aroma from juniper syrup, as well as some juniper sugar.
The drink made its first appearance for the Christmas of 2017 but only at specialty Starbucks Reserve locations. After being such a hit, the company is offering it in all Canadian locations after the holiday drink release on November 2nd.
Luckily for me, Narcity was offered a taste test of the new Juniper latte one day in advance and it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. As a big-time lover of Starbucks and an even bigger lover of coffee, I was hesitant to try a piney-latte that might ruin the holiday coffee inspired spirit I was so looking forward to.
That being said, the Juniper latte was beyond what I could have expected it to be.
After taking a leap of faith, this drink, that smelt strongly of pine-sol, actually impressed me a ton. As hesitant as I was when drinking it (just see my face above), the Juniper Latte is actually a must-try holiday drink because of it's unique and light flavour.
Similar to the aroma, the juniper flavour is not overpowering but is the main flavour of the drink. Unlike many of the other holiday drinks that are decked out in whipped cream and caramel topping, this drink is delicious because of its ability to be flavourful without being too decadent. The simple ingredients make it a stand-alone star that bares it all and tastes freaking amazing.
Of course, it's important to remember that the holiday drinks are typically luxurious and sweet! While it's an exciting year for a brand new latte, it's also the 16th year that the coffee company will be bringing back the classic Peppermint Mocha to celebrate the holidays.
You can grab your new Juniper Latte at any Starbucks location across Canada as of November 2nd and believe me, you'll want to try it! The latte is $5.25 for a grande excluding tax and will only be available while supplies last!
