Broke from the Holidays? Caught a case of the Winter blues? Scrounging up some money to see a flick? It's that time of year where you're counting your pennies — well nickels now. Every pay cheque seems to go to your heavy credit card. You still want to live the Holiday dream, but you're broke AF.

Luckily, St. John's has several events going on that won't cost you a thing this winter! From January to March we've listed a bunch of free events happening all over Newfoundland! Festivals, special events and day to day activities you'll love. Save your money for a trip to a sandy beach during Spring break!

1. Go skating at the Loop at Bannerman Park

The Loop is free to the public as long as there's ice! So lace up those silver babies and giver!

2. Tour the Basilica

Drop in and marvel at the architecture! It's free of charge to have a look — you might even learn something!

3. Enjoy live music every Friday night at Jumping Bean

Jumping Bean hosts live music every Friday night at their Elizabeth Ave location. Don't miss a beat!

4. Pippy Snowbike Festival

Try out a fat tire bicycle in Pippy Park Janurary 29th! The event starts at 10:30AM until 12:30pm at the parking lot on the right before the top of Allendale Rd. For those who have bikes to use in the snow! Join them for a free group ride at 10AM with a social gathering at Bitters afterwards.

5. Pet the animals at Lester's Farm

Emus, donkeys, pigs oh my! The pets at the barn are always happy to see a friendly face!

6. Check out the Sunday CLB Flea Market

It's free of charge to check out all the interesting vendors at the CLB Flea Market! Sunday's from noon to 4pm at C.L.B. Armoury, 82 Harvey Road.

7. India Open Mic

For all those students out there, start off your semester the right way! Bring your singing voice and your buddies to the Breezeways first India's open mic! Happening January 11th from 9pm-12am. You never know who might show up!

8. Zumba party at the Village Mall

For a limited time join Garrett Wells and Dimitra Kufudi at Goodlife in the Village Mall for a Zumba party! Get ready to shake it off and start 2017 with a few less lbs! For free passes sign up here! This event will be happening Monday, January 9th, 7:30 to 8:30pm.

9. Window shop at Some Good Market

Wake up bright and early Saturday, March 25th at 8am to check out all the sweet vendors at St. Thomas church! Admission is free but food donations are gladly accepted!

10. Join a Trad Session hosted by Stacey Seward!

Head down to The Ship Pub January 4th from 8-11pm for a evening you won't forget! This event is free of charge! Join them for an excellent folk night!

11. Visit the Quidi Vidi Plantation

Looking to see some art in action this winter? Then look no further! The fine artists at the Quidi Vidi Plantation will leave you speechless with their amazing work!

12. Check out The Rooms

The Rooms is free on the first Wednesday of every month from 6-9pm! Take in the history and amazing art by featured artists!

13. Snowshoe the East Coast Trail

Of course what's a winter without snowshoeing one of the many beautiful East Coast trails? The only thing this will cost you is sore legs the day after from a solid workout!

Discover new artists when you walk into Eastern Edge art gallery! Check out contemporary Canadian and international artists!

15. Attend the Women's March on Washington

Snow lovers rejoice! The City of Toronto is hiring for a bunch of winter jobs right now, and a lot of them are paying over minimum wage.

According to the City, the recreational opportunities, some of which pay over $20 an hour, include Ski Patrol Attendants, Skate Program Instructors and Rink Guards.

Canada's Fall Forecast Predicts That Winter Is Coming Early For Quite A Few Provinces

This could be a quicker start to winter than what's often happened in the last 20 years.

The Weather Network has released Canada's fall forecast and it turns out the season is expected to end early for quite a few provinces as winter weather bursts onto the scene.

According to the new forecast, most of Canada should see near-normal or above-normal temperatures during the fall — with the warmest weather extending from Ontario all the way to Newfoundland — but that won't last for long.

This year is coming in cold, with well-below-normal temperatures predicted in Central Canada and a "brutally cold" Christmas and Boxing day across Ontario.

The Bloor West Village Toronto Ukrainian Festival is back for its 25th anniversary from September 17 to 19 with concerts and street eats.

Last year the renowned festival had to move online due to COVID-19 but this year will take place in person on a smaller scale with fewer people and unfortunately no parade.
