Here's What I Wish I Knew Before I Started My Last Year Of University
I'd love to tell you that this year is going to be one of the best of your life. Don't get me wrong, some parts will be pretty fucking amazing, but it's going to be one of the hardest years of your life, too. You're going to work real fking hard. I mean, library till it closes, long bus rides home, sleeping whenever you can get an hour in.
Netflix? What's that? You're going to school events. Working towards that good GPA. Maybe even Dean's List. You'll sacrifice seeing your friends, going out. Your relationships might struggle a little. But it'll all be worth it, don't you worry.
By now, you've finally figure out who your friends are. Who's actually there for you and who just wanted to use your fake ID in first year. These are the people that see you for who you are, not who you were in highschool. They've grown with you and they're ready to finish one of the best years of your life, by your side.
The year is really going to fly now, doll. Take note. This isn't some cheesy cliche people use. The time really does slip through your fingers and before you know it, you're in a cap and gown. And sooner still, on your laptop. Looking for jobs. Apply to grad schools. Wondering what you're going to do and who you're going to be.
So take pictures, save your Snapchats, write it all down. These are the days you're going to remember most when you're sitting at a desk, looking out the window, dreaming of the past. I want you to remember these moments more than anything. Drinking beers with your friends at the pub. Lying in the sun in the quad. Coming into lecture a half hour late, with a bagel and a coffee you can barely afford. This is a precious time in your life whether you realize it or not.
You're going to say you can't wait to get out of there. And while you won't miss the lectures, papers or hours of work, you will miss the time you got to spend getting to know yourself. Making new friends. Discovering what you want to do and who you want to be.
