You Can Raft Across A Massive Fresh Water Spring Across The Border This Summer

In Palms Book State Park you can find Kitch-iti-kipi, otherwise known as Big Spring. The freshwater spring is a bit of a mystery as it fills with nearly 40,000 litres of water per minute, but it isn't known precisely where the enormous quantity of water comes from!
This hidden gem is a favourite with tourists who come to see the geological wonder. Kitch-iti-kipi means big cold water, and gets its name because the water maintains a constant temperature of 7°C! To help you explore the emerald lake that is 300 feet by 175 feet and is 40 feet deep, you can take a raft across the river.
The self-guided observation raft on the lake has a glass bottom so that you can explore underwater. Since the water in the lake is crystal clear, you can see all sorts of things like giant fish and ancient lime-encrusted tree branches.
The boat trip across the water takes between 10 and 20 minutes and is well worth it. The cable raft is self-powered. To move the barge forward or backwards, you will need to spin a wheel on the boat.
From Toronto, it takes eight hours and 50 minutes to reach Kitch-iti-kipi. Once you arrive, the freshwater spring is only a short walk from the parking lot. The cost to visit is only $9 per vehicle for non-Michigan residents, paid upon entry at the Michigan state park.
