Sunflower Field In North Carolina Lets You Pick Fruit & Flowers

Spring is almost here and that means all the dormant botanicals will soon liven up the Earth again. Exploring flower shops and farmers markets can be fun, but sometimes it's more enjoyable when these outings become a hands-on experience. Flowers and strawberries are some of the most colorful of nature's gems and you can pick your very own at this sunflower field in North Carolina

Lineberger's Maple Springs Farms, founded nearly 100 years ago in 1928, is nestled on the outskirts of Charlotte in Dallas, NC. You can literally leap into spring this year at the family-owned spot as you frolic through the flowers and pick your own produce.

Spring is when some of the juiciest fruits are in season, but the farm harvests crops all year long. Altogether, they grow over 13 fruits and veggies including zucchini, muscadines, tomatoes, peaches, cucumbers, melons, blueberries, strawberries and much more.

U-pick experiences are available for strawberries (May), blackberries and blueberries (June and July) and muscadines (September and October).

You can also pluck a variety of flowers, depending on what's currently sprouting. At two for $1, you can build your own bouquet of magificient multi-colored Zinnias, which typically bloom in late spring.

Once sunflowers begin to grace the fields with their beauty (around July), you can grab them for $1 each.

You'll also have the opportunity to browse their market filled with handmade products like cider, slushies, jam, salsa, bread, snacks and candy. They even have two roadside markets on Dallas-Stanley Highway and Hudson Poultry Road.

Anytime you catch yourself exhausted from city life, you can take a detour to the countryside. Don't forget to come back for a visit in the fall for pumpkins, hayrides and campfires.
