On Sunday night, Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview aired on television in Canada and the United States.
It’s the first time Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, have bared it all in an interview since formally giving up their royal duties.

"Conversations" about their child's skin colour
One of the most talked-about moments from the interview came when Meghan revealed that there had been multiple “conversations” within the royal household about the possible skin colour of their unborn child.
"In those months when I was pregnant there were concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born," she explained.
She said that while the conversations had been with Harry, he’d relayed them back to her.
She noted that it was “really hard to be able to see those as compartmentalized conversations."
Harry refused to discuss with whom in the family the conversations took place and said he was “never going to share” additional details about it.
However, he described feeling “awkward” and “shocked” by the discussions.
“There were some real obvious signs before we even got married that this was going to be really hard,” he added.
Getting "cut off" financially
During the segment of the interview that involved Prince Harry, he revealed that he was “literally cut off financially” from his family in early 2020.
Harry explained that they were only able to leave the U.K. and move abroad thanks to the money that his mom, Princess Diana, had left for him.
“Without that, we wouldn't have been able to do this," he said.
He also admitted that it was never part of the couple’s plan to take up Netflix and Spotify deals, but said: "I had to afford security for us."
The couple also revealed that after they were cut off, it was American billionaire Tyler Perry that helped them find a home and security after they moved from Canada to California.
Meghan's mental health
In an emotional segment of the interview, Meghan opened up about her mental health struggles since becoming a part of the royal family.
At one stage, she explained that she "just didn't want to be alive anymore.”
When Oprah asked if she was having suicidal thoughts at that time, Meghan responded, "Yes. I thought it would have solved everything for everyone.”
"I went to the institution and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help […] and I was told that I couldn't, that it wouldn't be good for the institution,” she said.
"Nothing was ever done," she added.
A private wedding
While the couple had a huge, public wedding ceremony back in 2018, they revealed to Oprah that they’d actually been married days earlier.
Three days before their formal royal wedding, they’d met privately with the Archbishop of Canterbury.
“No one knows [this,] but we called the Archbishop and we just said ‘Look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world, but we want our union between us,’” Meghan explained.
“The vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury.”
Life before royalty
Meghan revealed during the interview that she hadn’t done much research into the royal family when she met and started dating Prince Harry.
"I will say I went into it naively," she admitted, noting that she didn’t realize she’d have to curtsy to the Queen when meeting her.
"I said [to Harry]: 'It's your grandmother'," said Meghan. "He said: 'It's the Queen.'”
Harry's relationship with his family
While both Meghan and Harry told Oprah that their relationship with the Queen was strong, things apparently aren’t so good with other working members of the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex explained that while he’s spoken to his grandmother (the Queen) more in the past year than ever before, his relationship with Prince Charles (his father) is suffering.
"There's a lot to work through there," he said. "I feel really let down because he's been through something similar, he knows what pain feels like, and Archie is his grandson.”
He also admitted that his relationship with his brother (Prince William) is “spaced at the moment.”
"Time heals all things [...] hopefully,” he concluded.
It's a girl
One of the brighter moments of the interview was when the couple revealed they were expecting a baby girl this summer.
Harry described the news as “amazing,” adding, "What more can you ask for?!"
The family, which includes “the four of us and our two dogs,” won’t get any bigger, though.
The duo confirmed that they’ll probably be sticking with just two kids.
One of the final questions Oprah asked is whether or not the couple got a “happy ending” after all.
"[It’s] greater than any fairytale that you've ever read," Meghan said.
