“I’m asking all Canadians to cancel or postpone their non-essential travel,” wrote Alghabra.
He said that if we’re able to avoid visiting family members right now, we should also be able to avoid taking discretionary trips abroad.
“Each of us has a part in keeping Canadians safe and healthy,” the minister added.
It’s a message that’s been backed by public health officials and the prime minister.
Last month, Trudeau encouraged travellers to cancel any upcoming trips they’ve got booked — including vacations inside of Canada.
This comes as the country has also implemented stronger travel restrictions, including suspending all flights to sun destinations.
