Jonathan Bennett, best known for playing Aaron Samuels in the 2004 comedy Mean Girls, said he and his fiancé, Jaymes Vaughan, were denied by a wedding venue for being gay.
In an interview with The Knot, Bennett said they were planning on getting married at Palace Resorts in Mexico, but the owner declined to marry them because it "goes against his morals."
"That was a sucker punch to the gut. We decided in that moment that our wedding was bigger than us [...]. It's about the LGBTQ+ community. We're really making a point to make this wedding very loud on purpose," Bennett said.
The couple said they have booked their wedding at Mexico's UNICO hotel, an all-inclusive resort that is "excited" to host the couple's big day.
Bennett also said they are planning an "epic, multi-trip honeymoon" with the help of their recently launched LGBTQ+ travel company, OUTbound, which has created adventures to places around the world where members of the community can feel "safe and celebrated."
