After a multi-thousand kilometre adventure across the Pacific Ocean, one American racing pigeon now faces death for breaking quarantine rules.

On December 26, the exhausted bird was discovered in a backyard in Canberra, Australia. It had travelled from Oregon, U.S. on October 29, after disappearing from a race.

The barn owl that was rescued in Orange County by firefighters on Tuesday night from the flames of the Silverado Fire is recovering nicely, in some much needed good news.

The large owl was brought to the Serrano Animal and Bird Hospital in Lake Forest to be treated for burns after firefighters scooped him up out of the flames and into one of their yellow jackets.

So, for those of you who don't know (myself included) Canada apparently has a national bird. Why? I have no clue what the purpose of having a national bird is, but luckily ours ended up being ridiculously cute.

Canada's new national bird (according to National Geographic) is the gray jay which is also known as a whiskey jack and people seem to already be obsessed with it. Gray Jays are known for being hardy, friendly and smart, which are basically the three things all Canadians are! ;)
