Ontario has been back in a modified Step Two for just over a week – but restrictions may not lift as soon as some Ontarians hope.

In a press conference on January 13, Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario's chief medical officer of health, says he "can't guarantee" that the new restrictions will lift on January 26 like originally planned.

Starting Friday, April 23, Peel Public Health is implementing new measures for businesses with the aim of protecting the region's essential workers.

The new measures will mandate workplaces in Peel that report five or more cases of COVID-19 (which could have been "reasonably acquired" in the workplace) in a two-week period to close for the duration of 10 days.

On Thursday, the province announced another Ontario inspection blitz, which will encourage compliance in construction sites, big box stores, food processing plants, manufacturers and warehouses.

A release by the Ontario Government says that the blitz will involve dispatching 200 workplace enforcement officers to businesses, including over 1,300 construction sites province-wide on Friday.

According to the running tally of workplace outbreaks that Toronto keeps, businesses like hairdressers, nail salons, and tattoo parlours only accounted for a single outbreak as of March 30, 2021.
