The Peterborough lift lock has been converted into a fine dining restaurant, and officials have not only announced the opening of the attraction in Peterborough & the Kawarthas but tickets for 2017 have already sold out.
This unique dining experience promises to be like no other. Guests are given an opportunity to enjoy a meal of locally sourced food while dining under 1,700 tonnes of water. They also receive a tour of the historic site, which has never been opened to the public.
In order to get to the lock guests will have to paddle along the Trent-Severn waterway by canoe, lifted 19.81 (65 feet) above ground, and travel through a series of narrow tunnels, stairways and chambers.
This adventure might not be for the faint of heart but it's totally worth it for such a unique location!
Peterborough and the Kawartha Tourism launched the "Lock 21" this summer, and prices for the exceptional dining experience will run you $265 + HST.
There is a limit of 16 guests per dinner, so it promises to be an intimate affair. Luckily this is also advertised as a strictly a 19+ experience so you can expect beer/ wine parings with dinner and no kids.
While tickets are sold out for the 2017 Lift Lock experience, the officials running the event ensure that they will be back in 2018 for another round of underwater dining.
