If I'm being totally and completely honest with you, I'm definitely someone who follows the hype. I love watching Youtube videos that talk about the newest beauty trends and makeup products that makeup gurus are pining for. But over the years I've come to realize that there are so many incredibly expensive makeup products that are simply just overrated and not worth it.
I've made my mistakes and I'm still learning. So here I am to share with you my thoughts on some of 2017's most overrated makeup products and most underrated products.
Let me get one thing straight, if you love the overrated products, that's fine! Own it, girl! Everyone likes different things and at the end of the day, makeup is about whatever makes you feel good. But there are also tons of makeup underdogs that are absolutely phenomenal products but don't get enough credit and I want to share those with you.
If you're looking to expand your makeup collection and try some new products that you've never heard of, you've come to the right place. We've got tons of super underrated, but fantastic makeup products from high end to drugstore and everything in between.

Water Blend Face & Body Foundation // Makeup Forever
Price: $54
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Makeup Forever. They have some of the best waterproof eyeliners and face primers, but their new Water Blend Foundation seems to miss the mark when it comes to good foundations. The foundation is composed of 80% water, so they're not lying or anything, but the coverage seems to be so light that it's like you haven't even really put on foundation. If a foundation is going to be sooo light coverage, I'd rather opt for no foundation at all.

The Sculpting Contour Powder // Kevyn Aucoin
Price: $53
There is so much hype around Kevyn Aucoin's Sculpting Contour Powder in the beauty community, it's a little crazy. And as much as Kevyn Aucoin is known for making professional quality products, the Scultping Powder doesn't seem to cut it for me. I'm all for a cool tone contour, but this powder is suuuper cool tone. It may be great for very fair skin types who have cool skin tones, but if you're a bit more tan, this could just end up looking dirty on your face.
Verdict: Overrated
MegaGlo Highlighting Powder // Wet n Wild
Price: $7
Kylighters can move aside because Wet n Wild's MegaGlo highlighters are absolutely blinding. They are super inexpensive but so pigmented and glowy. And if you're looking for Kylighter dupes, the Megaglo shade in "Precious Petals" is exactly the same as Kylie's "Cotton Candy Cream".
Verdict: Underrated
Studio Fix Perfecting Powder // MAC
Price: $33
Everyone knows and loves MAC's Studio Fix Foundation, but seriously why has nobody ever mentioned the loose powder form? The Studio Fix Perfecting Powder is a semi-translucent loose powder that's so finely milled and is so versatile - you can use it to bake, to set foundation, or even over bare skin to give you that no makeup makeup look. It's so long lasting, does not get cakey, and the best part, there are so many shade options.
Verdict: Underrated
Blush in Mendocino // Cargo
Price: $32
Why does the beauty community hardly ever speak of Cargo blushes? Their blushes are so beautiful, so creamy and so pigmented, and there's also a lot of product in one pan. The blush in shade Mendocino is super comparable to NARS' Laguna blush...but perhaps even better.
Verdict: Underrated

Eyeshadow Primer Potion // Urban Decay
Price: $28
It pains me to say this because I actually love the Urban Decay Primer Potion. It's been in my makeup bag for years ever since I started wearing makeup, and I still use it today. But the truth is, there are so many eyeshadow primers on the market that are just as good and more affordable. So if you're currently using it great, but if you want a cheaper alternative, try ELF Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer or Wet n Wild Take On The Day Eyeshadow Primer.
Verdict: Overrated
Kyshadow Palettes // Kylie Cosmetics
Price: $53 - $68
There's nothing particularly wrong or bad about Kylie's eyeshadow palettes, but there's also nothing particularly outstanding either. The palettes are pretty standard bronze, purples, and browns, that are quite easy to find elsewhere for a much more affordable price and the quality is not amazing, but it's also not bad. So unless you're a die-hard Kylie Jenner fan, personally I would recommend giving these products a pass.
Verdict: Overrated
Freedom System Eyeshadows // Inglot
Price: $12 per shadow
Okay, so I get that palettes are super convenient because you have someone who's already chosen a colour scheme for you, but choosing your own colours to create your personalized palette can be even better...because you know you're going to love every shade. Inglot has this super cool Freedom System where you can individually choose each eyeshadow and build your own palette, and the best part is that all their shadows are so high quality, so creamy, and so pigmented. I never hear people talking about Inglot products unless their professional makeup artists, so come on fam, it's time we got on this ish!
Verdict: Underrated
Brow Stylist Definer // L'Oreal
Price: $12
This eyebrow product does not get enough attention that it deserves. L'Oreal's Brow Stylist is a double ended eyebrow pencil with a spoolie on the other end. It creates such a natural looking brow and it's totally comparable to Anastasia Beverly Hills' Brow Wiz. One downside is that there are only three shades available, but if the shade suits you, I guarantee you will never spend $30 on a brow pencil again.

Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks // Colour Pop
Price: $6
Colour Pop's liquid lippies took Youtube and Instagram by storm, and they make tons of beautiful shades for a super affordable price. However, as much as I want to like them, as many liquid lipsticks are, they tend to be rather drying. Especially during the fall, anything drying I'll have to say no thank you.

Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil // Makeup Forever
Price: $24
Not that Makeup Forever aren't already stars, but when it comes to their Aqua Lip Lipliners they outshine everyone. They're not widely talked about on the internet, but they are so pigmented, super long lasting, and don't bleed. They even work really well as a base for your lipstick and aren't drying.
Verdict: Underrated
Lasting Finish Kate Moss Nude Collection Lipsticks // Rimmel
Price: $7
Rimmel's Lasting Finish Kate Moss Nude Lipsticks are some of the best nude lipsticks ever. They come in a variety of shades for fair and deep skin tones, and they're super low maintenance. You don't have to be anxious about your lipstick getting stuck to your teeth or having to reapply every hour.
