According to an MNP Consumer Debt Index report, 31% of homeowners in Ontario report being "house poor." This means after their home-related bills are paid, they don't have a lot of money left over.

Are you 35 years old or younger and own more than one property in Toronto? If the answer is no, don't fret. Currently, 18% of homeowners under 35 years old in Toronto do.

According to a report released by Royal LePage, which surveyed 500 people in the GTA in June 2021, a larger percentage of homeowners under the age of 35 own multiple properties than those older than 35 years old.

The majority of millennials dream of becoming homeowners one day. Such desire is largely influenced by their parents, who have set the following standard for young adulthood: graduate, land a stable job, get married and buy a home (ideally before 30 years of age).  Unfortunately, millennials today face significant financial hurdles that prevent them from following that trajectory and cause them to put important priorities on hold.
